Camp Kindred is a fully grassroots, DIY queer gathering held in a rural field setting just outside Lewes. As a small, unfunded, community-led event, we’re working with limited resources but we are absolutely committed to making the space as welcoming, safe, and accessible as we possibly can.
We recognise that access is not one-size-fits-all, and we know we won’t get everything right which is why we’re open to feedback and always happy to talk about what you need. There is a space on the application form to tell us your accessibility requirements, and we encourage you to reach out to us directly as well.
Here’s what we can confirm so far:
Flat terrain: The main camping area is up a slight hill but the stage areas are largely flat grassland, which is why we’ve added an another campsite area nearer towards the entrance so it is all on flat land and easy access to the stages.
Toilets: Compost toilets will be available. If you require an accessible toilet, please notify us in advance so we can ensure it is reserved and appropriately located.
Mobility: We’re happy to discuss any support you might need getting around the site, including providing closer parking/drop-off or arranging help from volunteers where possible.
Wellbeing & support: We will have trained wellbeing stewards (“Kindred Angels”) on shift throughout the weekend, as well as a team of first-aiders available for physical or mental health needs.
Quiet spaces: We’re working to create calmer areas where people can rest, decompress, or simply be, away from the busier parts of the site.
Communication: If you have specific needs around sensory access, visual cues, or communication preferences, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
PAs access: While we can’t guarantee free PA places for every request, we’re reviewing needs on a case-by-case basis. If you require support to attend, please get in touch as early as possible and we’ll do our best.
Camp Kindred exists to create a space where our queer community can thrive and we know that means making it accessible, not just fun. If you have access questions, ideas, or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at campkindredfestival@gmail.com
